At Natural Dentist Associates, we believe in preserving your natural teeth whenever possible. However, there are situations where tooth extraction becomes necessary for your overall oral health and well-being. Our biological approach to extractions ensures optimal healing while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues.
Tooth extractions may be recommended when:
Our IAOMT-certified approach emphasizes biocompatible materials and techniques that support your body’s natural healing processes while removing potential sources of infection or inflammation.
Natural Dentist Associates follows IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) and IABDM (International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine) protocols to ensure the safest, most biocompatible approach to tooth extractions.

My original dentist refused to fill a cavity on a wisdom tooth on principle that wisdom teeth are too much trouble and insisted I should have all 4 pulled. As a 50+ yr old with very few cavities, I was not interested in oral surgery to remove 4 perfectly good teeth. Thankfully, the dentist at Natural Dentist Associates was willing to give my wisdom teeth the care they deserved. Very gentle & respectful. She saved my teeth! Also no pressure to have x-Ray, etc. Very good experience.
I did have to pay upfront as they are not in an insurance network. But they do file the insurance claim. My insurance reimburses me most of that cost.
Update July 2024: had another cavity in a wisdom tooth. On again, my dentist here, Dr Brown, saved the day and the tooth! I am so happy with the care I’ve received from this practice over the years.

Today I had my very first tooth extraction as an adult. I’m really a tooth wimp, Dr.. Tipograph whipped the tooth out deftly and quickly I was amazed at the speed and dexterity. Of course it’s painful now but it’s bound to be. On top of that she fixed in the implant with the same skill. Thank you for also checking in with me late at night to make sure I was doing ok.
That’s the caring service that this practice demonstrates with their patients.

Let me just start by saying I have seen a LOT of dentists and have had a lot of dental work. Today I saw Dr Tippograph for a root canal extraction and it FAR exceeded my expectations. I don’t think it’s possible to have gone any better. I have a lot of dental anxiety and I was pretty much dreading the appointment. But Dr Tippograph is amazing. She is truly an expert. She did everything with such excellent care- her numbing was perfect (I don’t think there was even a pinch), tooth extraction was easy peasy- I couldn’t even tell when it was out. She was careful in making sure the area was cleaned out before adding PRF and suturing. I appreciated how detail oriented she was with the suturing. Night and day difference to an experience I had with another dentist. Her assistant, Maria, was an angel and always super attentive, patient and kind. At one point I even said “there was no blood!” There was, it was just that Maria did such a good job suctioning. At the end of the day, I even got a call from Dr Tippograph to make sure I’m feeling okay. That goes a long way in my book! The whole office works like a well oiled machine. It is well worth the money to see this practice!

It is rare that I go to the dentist willingly or wish I had gone to before. I have had more than one root canal and tooth extraction performed by other dentists (even having been cared for by a different natural dentist in a major midwest city!) and I can say with all that dental experience, this is the best dental practice I have been to. Maybe if I had been coming to Natural Dentists Associates as my regular dentist before, I would have teeth in better condition (having not skipped dental appointments for years because I hate going to the dentist)! Now, needing some extensive reconstruction (implants) I can honestly say that having had Kim Baer work on my mouth was a pleasurable experience. With other dentist, after previous root canals, teeth extractions, etc. my mouth was always fairly messed up with stitches or sore for a few days-- I just had some oral surgery voluntarily on New Years Eve and forgot almost all about it long before the New Year came around. Kim has a very light touch indeed!
The entire staff seems to enjoy working there and there is a team spirit evident, with people always willing to help. I really can't recommend them highly enough!

Very good Dentist, zero pain after tooth extraction of failed root canal. Excellent deep cleaning of my teeth as well. Well worth the 65 mile drive. They were the only dentist I could find that would clean out the socket properly after extraction i.e.. grind the bone, several so called top dentist near me said they just would pull the tooth and that's it. They took the extra time to do it right and for that I am grateful.
Best regards, Jim
With modern anesthesia and our biological approach, tooth extractions should not be painful during the procedure. You’ll feel pressure but no pain. Post-operative discomfort is typically manageable with prescribed medications and natural remedies. Most patients experience mild to moderate discomfort for 2-3 days, which can be effectively controlled with proper pain management techniques including Biocomp Labs materials testing to ensure biocompatible healing support.
Initial healing typically takes 1-2 weeks, with the extraction site closing within 7-10 days. Complete bone healing takes 3-6 months. Our biological protocols with IAOMT-certified techniques often accelerate healing compared to conventional methods. Factors affecting healing time include your overall health, smoking status, extraction complexity, and adherence to post-operative instructions including biocompatible materials from our Biocomp Labs testing protocols.
Biological extractions follow IAOMT protocols using biocompatible materials verified through Biocomp Labs testing, ozone therapy, and natural healing support. We avoid toxic materials, use specialized techniques to preserve bone and tissue, and provide nutritional support for optimal healing. Conventional extractions may not address mercury safety, use synthetic materials, or support the body’s natural healing processes with our comprehensive biological approach.
It depends on the tooth’s location and function. Front teeth usually require replacement for aesthetics and speech. Back teeth may need replacement to prevent bite changes and jaw problems. Options include biocompatible dental implants (titanium or zirconia), bridges, or partial dentures. Our team serving Rockville, North Bethesda, and Montgomery County will discuss the best replacement option based on your specific situation, oral health, and lifestyle needs.
Dry socket occurs when the blood clot is dislodged from the extraction site, exposing bone and nerves causing severe pain 2-4 days after extraction. Prevention includes avoiding smoking, spitting, using straws, and following all post-operative instructions. Our biological approach with ozone therapy, biocompatible materials tested through Biocomp Labs, and natural healing support significantly reduces dry socket risk compared to conventional extraction methods.
You’ll need to modify your diet for about a week starting with soft, cool foods and gradually progressing to normal eating as healing allows. Avoid hard, hot, spicy, or sticky foods initially. We provide detailed dietary guidelines and recommend healing-supportive foods including anti-inflammatory options. Most patients in our Rockville and Northern Virginia practice can return to normal eating within 7-10 days, depending on the extraction complexity and following our biological healing protocols.
We offer multiple sedation levels: nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for mild anxiety, oral sedation for moderate anxiety, and IV conscious sedation for severe anxiety or complex procedures. General anesthesia is available for extensive surgical cases. Our team will help you choose the most appropriate option based on your anxiety level, medical history, and procedure complexity, ensuring comfort throughout your extraction experience in our Rockville office.
We follow strict IAOMT protocols for mercury-safe removal including high-volume suction, dental dam isolation, chunking technique (not drilling), oxygen supplementation, and specialized air filtration. Our IAOMT and HDA certified approach protects you, our staff, and the environment from mercury vapor exposure during extraction. All materials are tested through Biocomp Labs to ensure biocompatibility and safety for optimal healing after mercury amalgam removal.
Socket preservation involves placing biocompatible bone graft material in the extraction site to maintain bone volume and shape. It’s recommended when future tooth replacement is planned, especially for dental implants. This procedure prevents the 40-60% bone loss that typically occurs after extraction and makes future restoration more predictable and successful. Our biological approach uses materials verified through Biocomp Labs testing to ensure optimal biocompatibility.
This depends on several factors including bone quality, infection presence, and extraction complexity. Immediate implant placement is sometimes possible, while other cases require 3-6 months of healing. With socket preservation using biocompatible materials, implant placement is often more predictable. Our biological approach with IAOMT protocols and Biocomp Labs tested materials may allow for faster healing and earlier implant placement in appropriate cases for our Montgomery County patients.
We recommend vitamin C for collagen formation, vitamin D3 for bone health, zinc for tissue repair, and omega-3 fatty acids for inflammation control. Probiotics support immune function, while arnica helps with bruising and swelling. Bromelain and turmeric provide natural anti-inflammatory effects. We provide specific dosing recommendations based on your individual needs and ensure all supplements are compatible with biocompatible healing protocols verified through our Biocomp Labs testing.
While tooth extractions are generally safe, potential risks include bleeding, infection, dry socket, nerve damage, and sinus complications (for upper teeth). Our biological approach with IAOMT certification, HDA training, and careful surgical technique minimize these risks significantly. We thoroughly review your medical history, provide detailed post-operative instructions, and maintain close follow-up to ensure optimal healing and early detection of any complications in our Rockville practice.
Experience the difference of IAOMT-certified biological dentistry protocols that prioritize your safety and optimal healing. Our approach combines advanced oral surgery techniques with biocompatible materials and natural healing support.
