I have been coming to this Dentist practice for 20 years and my kid for 10 years! I trust them and the care is outstanding. I’ve enjoyed the care of Dr Baer and Dr Tippograph. Dr Brown did a fantastic job fixing my son’s broken teeth and was so patient through 3 different appointments to get them as close to as they were. That was amazing! We love Kelsey who does our cleanings. I recently had two fillings, one of which was sooo complicated! Dr Tippograph took her time to minimize pain and make sure I was doing ok and comfortable during the whole procedure, fitting me in their schedule because I was flying overseas. I actually declined to see a closer dentist and drove all the way here. The staff is wonderful and respectful and overall you feel safe with their procedures! The billing is clear as they provide you an estimate of your cost ahead of time as they’re an out of network provider and it is an important consideration. Nevertheless, we moved to a different county but we come here because of the great service and value in this practice!

This is the ONLY place I trust with my teeth and my mouth. When I first came here, I had an infected root canal that had been like that for a number of years, affecting my health in any number of ways. Not only that, but I had several mercury amalgam fillings in my mouth, even though I am allergic to metals. With the help of Dr. Baer, my infection was cleaned out and ozonated. And a new ceramic implant was placed that looks JUST like my natural teeth. You literally cannot tell the difference.
Today I went in for an urgent scenario where my gums were infected due to eating some very crusty bread. They treated me so well and made sure I had what I needed even after hours. I’m so humbled and grateful to be a patient here.

Going to Dr. Baer’s office is a pleasant experience, even fun! Dr. Baer is full of good stories and humor. Hygienist Nadia has a great laugh and a gentle hand. The music is good, too. Plus, the dentistry is outstanding! Implants, crowns, fillings, even orthodontics is all there. Sometimes it’s hard to find a parking place though.

I had such a great experience at Natural Dentist Associates. Unfortunately like many as a child & into my teens & early adulthood I had Amalgam Fillings also known as Mercury fillings in 7 of my teeth. I discovered how toxic Mercury fillings are to your health and decided to have them all removed safely to protect myself and the Dentist & dental Assistant from Mercury poisoning during removal.
Dr Brown and her assistant Jesse are a awesome team. They used all the safety measures to get those fillings out without contaminating anyone. Anyone who is worried about Mercury contamination should call Natural Dentist Associates and I highly recommend Dr Brown. She is absolutely fabulous!❤️🦷

Dr. Baer and her staff are amazing. They do everything they can to make you feel at ease and your experience as enjoyable as possible. Dr. Baer’s treatment plans are about you and your health not how much she can make. Over the last 4 years, I have been on a holistic journey with my dental health. I have had my root canals replaced with implants, my amalgam mercury fillings removed and replaced with composite fillings and most recently a frenectomy (tongue tie release) to relieve neck tension and headaches. Dr. Baer was able to help me prioritize and advise me on my goals. I believe these procedures have made a physical improvement to my overall health and that she helped make this possible. In addition to being a wonderful caring dentist, I consider her a true friend and recommend Natural Dentist Associates.

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Especially with answering questions.
Mercury amalgam fillings contain approximately 50% mercury, a known neurotoxin that continuously releases vapors into your body. Research shows mercury accumulates in organs including the brain, kidneys, and liver, potentially causing neurological symptoms, immune system dysfunction, and other health problems. Our biological dentistry practice eliminates this risk by using only biocompatible, mercury-free materials that support your overall health.
With proper care, high-quality composite fillings typically last 7-12 years, and often longer. Their longevity depends on factors like the size and location of the filling, your oral hygiene, diet, and habits such as teeth grinding. Our biocompatible composite materials are designed for maximum durability, and we provide detailed care instructions to help extend the life of your fillings.
SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) is an IAOMT-certified protocol that minimizes mercury exposure during amalgam removal. This includes high-volume suction, rubber dam isolation, external air supply, room air filtration, careful sectioning techniques, and specialized protective equipment. Our team is trained in these protocols to ensure maximum safety during mercury filling replacement.
Modern composite materials are extremely durable and, in many ways, superior to amalgam fillings. They bond chemically to tooth structure, providing better retention and support. Unlike amalgam, composites don’t expand and contract with temperature changes, reducing the risk of tooth fractures. For large restorations where maximum strength is needed, we may recommend ceramic or gold inlays, which are also biocompatible options.
Most dental insurance plans cover composite fillings for front teeth at 100% and often provide substantial coverage for back teeth as well. While some plans may have limitations on posterior composite coverage, many are expanding benefits due to increased awareness of mercury toxicity. Our team will verify your specific benefits and help maximize your insurance coverage for biocompatible treatments.
Yes, we use advanced shade-matching systems to ensure your filling blends seamlessly with your natural tooth color. Modern composite materials come in numerous shades and can be layered to mimic the natural translucency and color variations in teeth. We may also use photographs and specialized lighting to achieve the most accurate color match possible.
Some patients experience mild sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures for a few days after placement, which is normal and typically resolves quickly. Our gentle technique and biocompatible materials minimize post-treatment sensitivity. If sensitivity persists beyond a week, we’ll evaluate the filling and make any necessary adjustments to ensure your comfort.
We first remove all decay and prepare the tooth surface for bonding. Unlike amalgam fillings that require mechanical retention, composite fillings bond chemically to tooth structure, allowing us to preserve more healthy tooth material. We apply an etching solution and bonding agent before placing the composite material in layers, each cured with a special light for optimal strength and durability.
Absolutely. We welcome patients from throughout Northern Virginia including McLean, Tysons Corner, Great Falls, Arlington, and Fairfax. Our Rockville location is easily accessible via I-495 and I-270. Many Northern Virginia patients specifically seek our mercury-free approach and biological dentistry expertise. We offer flexible scheduling including early morning and evening appointments to accommodate commutes from Northern Virginia.
Composite fillings require the same excellent oral hygiene as natural teeth – regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings. We recommend avoiding habits that could damage fillings like ice chewing, nail biting, or using teeth as tools. Regular checkups allow us to monitor your fillings and provide professional polishing to maintain their appearance and longevity.
Yes, we specialize in safe mercury amalgam removal using IAOMT protocols. This process requires special equipment and techniques to minimize mercury exposure during removal. We typically recommend replacing mercury fillings gradually rather than all at once, allowing your body time to process any released mercury. Our biological dentistry approach includes detoxification support recommendations.
The appointment typically takes 60-90 minutes depending on the size and complexity of the filling. We begin with gentle numbing if needed, remove any decay, and prepare the tooth. The composite material is applied in layers, each hardened with a special light. Finally, we shape and polish the filling to match your natural bite and tooth contours. Most patients can return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
