I am so grateful I learned about Dr. Baer from my chiropractor. My dental needs were not met by my prior general dentists , whose team only approached by dental care focused on six month cleanings, and no sign of cavities. Dr. Baer addressed my exam holistically, which is what I wanted but could not easily find from other dentists I was referred to. She diagnosed and treated my adult lip and tongue frenum constraints that in my generation were not recognized as they are today by this generation of pediatric dentists. I live in Northern Virginia but am happy to make the commute to their offices in Maryland for the best care. I am also working with a MYO Professional, Sarah, who has guided me through mouth exercises before and after my frenumectomies. I realize now how especially beneficial functional dentistry is, and I wish these dentists were more available and discoverable.

I have been a patient of Dr. Kimberly Baer for 2 years now. She is very caring, kind and gentle. She does not rush and explains procedures and treatments very well. Dentists that take into consideration your overall health and do not use toxins are difficult to find. I live 80 miles away, but I am willing to travel the distance to get this quality of dental care. I highly recommend Natural Dentists Associates.
READ MOREA crown is a cap that covers a single damaged tooth, restoring its shape, size, and function. A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by connecting crowns to adjacent teeth or implants. Both can be made from biocompatible materials like all-ceramic or zirconia. Our biological dentistry approach ensures both treatments use only non-toxic, metal-free materials that support your overall health.
Metal-based restorations can create galvanic currents in your mouth, potentially causing tissue irritation and systemic health issues. They may also contain nickel or other metals that cause allergic reactions. Our biocompatible ceramic and zirconia restorations eliminate these concerns while providing superior aesthetics, excellent durability, and better tissue compatibility. The materials we use are completely non-toxic and work harmoniously with your body.
With proper care, high-quality ceramic crowns and bridges can last 15-25 years or more. Modern ceramic materials like zirconia and lithium disilicate are extremely durable and resistant to wear. Factors affecting longevity include oral hygiene, diet, habits like teeth grinding, and regular dental care. Our biological dentistry approach includes guidance on maintaining your restorations naturally for maximum lifespan.
The process typically requires 2-3 visits. First, we prepare the tooth/teeth and take digital impressions. You’ll receive a temporary restoration made from biocompatible materials. Our laboratory creates your custom restoration using premium ceramic materials. At the final visit, we remove the temporary and cement your permanent restoration with biocompatible cement. We ensure perfect fit, bite, and aesthetics before you leave.
Yes, modern ceramic materials provide exceptional aesthetics that are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. We use advanced shade-matching techniques and consider factors like translucency, surface texture, and light reflection. Our ceramics transmit light naturally, avoiding the opaque appearance of metal-based restorations. The result is a restoration that blends seamlessly with your natural smile.
We focus on providing the highest quality restorations using premium laboratory-fabricated ceramics rather than same-day options. This approach allows us to use the best biocompatible materials and ensures superior fit, function, and aesthetics. While this requires a temporary restoration for a few weeks, the final result is a crown or bridge of exceptional quality that will serve you well for decades.
Crowns and bridges require excellent oral hygiene including regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings. For bridges, special flossing techniques or water flossers help clean under the replacement teeth. We recommend avoiding habits that could damage your restorations like ice chewing or using teeth as tools. Regular checkups allow us to monitor your restorations and provide any needed maintenance.
Yes, we specialize in safely replacing metal-based restorations with biocompatible alternatives. The process involves careful removal of the old restoration, evaluation of the underlying tooth structure, and placement of a new metal-free restoration. This upgrade eliminates potential health concerns from metal exposure while improving aesthetics and function. We can coordinate this with mercury filling replacement if needed.
Absolutely. We welcome patients from throughout Northern Virginia including McLean, Tysons Corner, Great Falls, Arlington, and Fairfax. Our Rockville location is easily accessible via I-495 and I-270. Many Northern Virginia patients choose our practice specifically for our biocompatible approach to crowns and bridges and our expertise in metal-free dentistry. We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate commutes from Northern Virginia.
If a tooth requires root canal treatment before crown placement, we coordinate care to ensure optimal outcomes. We may refer to endodontic specialists who share our biological dentistry approach when needed. Our crowns are designed to provide excellent protection for root canal-treated teeth, and we use biocompatible materials throughout the entire treatment process.
We understand that crown and bridge procedures can cause anxiety. Our gentle approach includes thorough explanations of each step, topical anesthetics, and various comfort options. We offer conscious sedation for anxious patients and create a calming environment with amenities like noise-canceling headphones and aromatherapy. Our team takes extra time to ensure your comfort throughout the process.
Alternatives to bridges include dental implants (our preferred option for single tooth replacement) and partial dentures. Dental implants don’t require altering adjacent healthy teeth and provide the most natural function. Our biological dentistry approach considers factors like bone health, overall wellness, and biocompatibility when recommending the best tooth replacement option for your specific situation.
